Every sharing group – be it an AC, a CA or a CE – requires a person or organisation to represent it in dealings with the grid operator and to organise the distribution of the shared electricity.
This role can be taken on by a member of the sharing group itself.
However, it can also be entrusted to a professional company – a so-called ‘sharing organiser’.
The ‘sharing organiser’ is not necessarily an additional role alongside that of a sharing group representative, but rather one of two options for fulfilling this role.
Each sharing group – AC, CA or CE – is free to decide whether to appoint a representative from within its own ranks or to delegate this task to a professional company in return for payment.
If a company assumes this role on a commercial basis, it is regarded as an ‘electricity company’ within the meaning of the Electricity Act and is therefore subject to the supervision of the regulatory authority (ILR).
